Keep up with Aliya at

6 months

It has been 6 months from the last update! So much has happened since then! Rob and I graduated medical school! We are both official doctors now! Aliya, our perfect daughter, was born the day after graduation. We moved to Florida again and Rob started residency in St. Petersburg. These are the good things, on the down side Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent chemo. Back on the good side the tumor shrunk!! Rob and I celebrated our FIFTH anniversary 2 days ago. I can't believe we have been married 5 years! This december will be 10 years we have been together!

Our first Family picture

We missed graduation because I was so pregnant and we could not travel to Iowa so our family threw us a graduation a week later. It was such a surprise! Rob and I were thrilled. Adam got us cap and gowns from this high school graduation but he couldn't find one cap so we used a stetson cap! We had so much fun. We got to march and throw our hats up in the air! So Fun!

Week 23

I can't believe it has been 14 weeks since I updated this blog. I was so miserable for those 14 weeks! I can not believe how much I threw up and how nausea was my life. I feel so privileged to be past that phase of pregnancy. I still throw up once a day (bile, first thing in the morning) but it is so much better. I can eat now. I just surpassed my prepregnancy weight. Yes I lost so much weight getting sick it took until now to recover the weight. I should be up 13-15 pounds but I am up 2 pounds. I started to feel the baby move about 2 weeks ago. She (It a girl!) loves to bounce around and have a party right as I want to go to bed, wonder what that means for the future! I also have a noticeable belly for the last week and actually look pregnant! That is kind of fun. Things that are not fun include rib pain, sternum pain, back pain, sciatic pain, leg cramps and did I mention vomiting!

The baby this week

This week the baby's length, from crown-to-rump, is approximately 8 inches! The growing baby has finally reached one pound. The baby is about the size of a small baby doll and looks very human. The baby's face and body look similar to that of a newborn at this time. My uterus can be found about 1.5 inches above your navel. Fat is still being deposited at a rapid rate, but the baby still looks red and wrinkled. Skin is being produced at a higher rate than the fat is, so the skin hangs loosely. The baby looks red because the skin is losing its transparency and pigment is beginning to form. The baby now can suck her thumb for real, where she was just sticking it in her mouth. The baby will continue to swallow amniotic fluid and recycle it as urine. The liquids and sugars that the baby retracts from the fluid is a supplement to the nutrients that the placenta delivers. The pancreas is developing and it will responsible for insulin production, to help break down sugars. As the baby continues to grow, it has less space to move around in the uterus. Bones, muscles and organs are growing steadily.

Welcoming a new addition to the family!

This Christmas, Zahra and I are welcoming a new member of the family!
We found out today, that we are going to have, in our house, a beautiful new Playstation 3! Its 160gb! Wow. We are so excited (0kay, maybe I am so excited)! I am thinking of naming it Earl, or maybe Pistachio, not sure yet. I just know I am lucky. I have been trying for a while, and I was getting scared I would never get one, but here it is! In our place! Ready to play! Tis the season everybody! I would like to thank Mom, Sean (I know you had a part in this), Zahra, and Sony. We are truely blessed! Oh, Zahra is pregnant too.
Thank you so much!!!
Love you all!

The Christmas Story House!

The Christmas Story house is here in Cleveland! This is the actual house they use in The Christmas Story and here we are in front of it. You can even see the major award Leg Lamp in the window! We have watched the movie a couple times today, seen the house, and later on we are going to the official Christmas Story Chinese restaurant to have a traditional Christmas Story chinese duck, with head attached, Christmas Dinner. We are filling up our time, but we miss our family so much up here! These things are a little fun, but nothing compares to spending time with the people you love! Cant wait to see everybody and everybody have a Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas Everybody!

Merry Christmas to everybody back in Florida! We msis everybody so much. One more month up here and then we'll be back home for a couple months. We hope everybody stays safe, has a great time, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Update

So it has been a while since our last update. We moved to a quieter apartment in cleveland and we are very happy. I have been sick every 2 minutes for the last 8 weeks which is why this blog has fallen through the cracks!

Rob and I are doing well. Rob is jetting of for interviews every other day and my days have been long and busy. I am learning a lot but it has been tough working and being sick.

For those of you who do not know... We are pregnant! Thus the throwing up all the time!

We are so very excited and so is the whole family.

Sorry it has been so long since my last blog

Things are crazy and so busy. We are in Cleveland. Rob finished his boards on Friday, poor guy has been studying for them for so long. Glad that they are over! Parking is a pain, our apartment is loud but we are doing all right!

The baby this week (week 9)

The baby now is about the size of a medium green olive. The crow-to-rump length is 22 to 30 mm and the baby weighs 0.12 ounces. Although the baby is still very small, it is beginning to look more like a human being. The baby's back is straightening out and the tail is shrinking. In proportion to the rest of his body, the head is large and remains curved forwards onto the chest. The head is erect and the neck is developing well. Even though the baby's eyes are well developed, they are covered by a membrane lid. The eyes will not begin to open and close for quite some time still. The baby will begin to make tiny movements as the muscles start to develop. The arms and hands are progressing faster than the legs and feet at this point. By this time of the baby's development, the hands have defined finger ridges and the tissue between them will die off to leave separate fingers. It is impossible to distinguish a male from a female at this time because external genitalia look very similar at this point.

How have women done this for so long?

I hate being pregnant right now.
The nausea is overwhelming, the complete feeling of being uncomfortable is too much. I can't sit, or lay down. I can't read, watch tv or do anything really without feeling terrible! I can't wait till week 13 when this nausea lets up! 5 weeks to go!
Rob is an unbelievable sweetheart doing everything for me so I don't have to move (since moving makes me sick)
Also, I am having sciatic nerve pain from my right butt cheek into my leg, very painful!
I am not showing yet but somethings are fitting a bit tight around the waist. Rob bought me 2 pregnancy jeans, very cute and comfortable.
Weight Gain so far: Negative 2 pounds!
It is normal to loose weight in the first trimester because of the nausea and morning sickness. I don't have much of an appetite either but I'll make up for it in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters!
We went to Whole foods Market yesterday and I have wanted to go there for over a year. I could not enjoy it at all because they have a big prepared foods area and a big fresh seafood area and all the smells were too much for me! Plus they had samples throughout the store and I am a big sample eater but I couldn't bring my self to eat any of them. They even had all butter pound cake samples, yummm! But I couldn't do it. Food is a total turn off for me right now. I am not throwing up a lot either but I just can't bring myself to eat much. (Not typical me!)

The Baby this week (week 8)

By the end of the second month of pregnancy, the baby is about the size of a pinto bean and is approximately 14 to 20 mm long. The baby is developing at an amazing rate during these early weeks. Eyelid folds and ears are forming. The baby's eyes are still very wide apart on the sides of her head, but will eventually center themselves out. The tip of the nose is actually present at this time as well. On ultrasound you can see that the aortic and pulmonary valves of the heart are present. The tubes that lead from the throat to lungs are branching and the baby's torso is getting longer and beginning to straighten out. Just a few weeks ago, the baby's arms were tiny buds. Now the elbows are actually present and the arms and legs extend forward and have grown longer. Fingers and toes are becoming visible also.

Ultrasound

We had our 2nd Ultrasound during the "scary time" and we saw the baby! It was so cute! It had a big little head and a fluttering heart beat! It looked like a butterfly flying in the babies chest. So special and wonderful. We were not expecting to see anything so we forgot to ask for a copy of the picture. It was such a crazy feeling to expect to see nothing and there is a baby there instead! So cool! We even heard the babies heart beat. Super fast!

The baby this week (Week 7)

This week the baby has an amazing growth spurt. At the beginning of this week, the baby is approximately 4 to 5 mm and by the end of the week it has more than doubled to 11 to 13 mm! The baby weights approximately 0.03 ounces. The baby's leg and arm buds are longer now and they have divided into segments where the hands and feet will be. The hands and feet also have an area where the fingers and toes will begin to form. At this point of the pregnancy, the heart is bulging from the body and it has divided into right and left chambers. The brain's hemispheres are continuing to grow and the air passages into the lungs are visible. The baby's eyes are beginning to get pigment. The nose is developing and the beginning of the face can be seen. The baby's abdomen is developing quickly and the appendix and pancreas are already present.

Look at the Baby's hand development this week!

This is how much they will change in 3 days

Scary Times!

We sure had a scare there but we are so glad things are now on the right path!

I hate Nausea!!

It is the worst felling like you are going to hurl every 2 min! I am always sick. Terrible, I hope this part passes quickly!

The baby this week (week 6)

Facial features are visible, including a mouth and tongue. The eyes have a retina and lens. The digestive system starts forming, beginning with the first cells of the stomach and the intestine. There are small indentations in the head, ready for the development of facial features, eyes, and ears. The outline of the jaw starts to form.

Surprise!!

We told our families today! We got these cute boxes that say "Surprise!" on the front and then inside was a positive pregnancy test! They were so excited. I think Adam was the most excited and the most surprised. We then told my grandparents and they were also really excited and happy.

Electronic Cigarettes, What will they think of next?

Mom just got this and I think it is so cool! Smokers get everything they love about cigarettes without any harmful stuff. Below is a description from the site:

Electronic Cigarette is the world's most advanced quit smoking product. It uses a small replaceable cartridge filled with propylene glycol and a small dose of nicotine, powered by a rechargeable battery. When the user inhales on the device, the air flow is detected by a sensor. A microprocessor then activates an atomizer which injects tiny droplets of the liquid into the flowing air and vaporises the liquid. Each cartridge is equivalent to 10 regular cigarettes, and it costs less then a dollar each.Unlike a traditional cigarette, electronic cigarette does not contain tobacco. It also does not contain any carcinogens such as tar, carbon monoxide, and arsenic. By replacing your smoking habits with our electronic cigarette, you will not only benefit from a healthier life, but you will also have the freedom to smoke anywhere in the world, including bars and restaurants where smoking is prohibited. The electronic cigarette has no odour, no burning, and absolutely no need of a lighter.Unlike other quit smoking products, the electronic cigarette can not only fulfill your cravings, but it can also satisfy your mental needs of smoking. By starting with high strength cartridges, and gradually lowering the nicotine strength to zero, users can successfully quit smoking in the most natural way.
